Flights and Trials

It has been a beautiful fall day – warm with just a bit of a nip in the air and the sun is glorious and the sky is that incredible blue that only comes in the autumn when the air is so clear. The birds are flocking around our neighborhood right now. It has been three days that we have watched hugh flocks of birds sitting in the trees and circling above. What an awesome sight. I love to listen to their cacophony as they prepare for their flight south.

Yesterday they began the trial for Sarah Kolb (aged 17) – accused of murdering Adrianna Reynolds last January in Rock Island County. What an appropriate day to start it – Halloween – as the murder resembled more a Jason murder than something you would believe a teenage girl could come up with. As of last night they had only seated 8 jurors, with 4 more and 4 alternates to yet be seated. I guess they want to make sure that the trial is completed. They say it should only take 2 weeks, but why would they need 4 alternate jurors?
